A Semiquincentennial Celebration

In 2026, America marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Star Spangled Sandcastles is our community’s way of honoring that milestone — bringing families, friends, and neighbors to the shore to build something joyful and patriotic together. Grab a shovel, shape the sand, and help us celebrate 250 years of American independence right here on Delray Beach.

Contest Rules

Designed for fun in the sun and creative artistic expression. Have fun and enjoy the beach!

Timing

Building runs 8:00 AM to 10:45 AM. Judging begins at 11:00 AM sharp.

Your Plot

One 10′ × 10′ plot per entry. Teams are assigned a space and all work must stay within it.

Keep it patriotic, not political — upbeat, family-friendly, and free of divisive statements.

Materials

Sand and water only. No coloring, paint, flour, sugar, starch, cement, glue, or adhesives.

Tools

Hand tools only — shovels, rakes, trowels, and the like. No mechanical tools.

Decoration

Only beach-native ornaments allowed: seaweed, driftwood, shells, and similar finds.

Team Size

No more than 5 people building at one time — not counting those carrying water.

Stay in Bounds

Keep all materials inside your plot during the event — nothing stored in the aisleways.
